I would like to know how will i make my tape drive available for mksysb backup.
The node on which the mksysb to be taken is already client of my NBU server.
Some enquires that i have backing of oracle database in a HP UX Cluster environment.
1. For the Client selection name, should i put physical db server name or the virtual hostname of the database
2. if the database is a SAN Media server, do i add the physical db server hostname or the virtual hostname to the additional server list on the master server?
First, I duplicate a backup from a remote deduplicated storage unit (located on a media "mymedia1") to the master "mymaster1" - "mymaster1" is a NetBackup 5020 appliance. I use this master "mymaster1" as an alternate read media server when I duplicate this backup.
After, I replicate this backup from the first master "mymaster1" to another master "mymaster2" which is also a NetBackup 5020 appliance.
A /usr/openv/netbackup/db/config/USE_BACKUP_MEDIA_SERVER_FOR_RESTORE have been created according to this technote:
http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH87200
However, the media used for this replication is not always the master "mymaster1"... it seems to be randomly chosen :
In this exemple : "mymedia1" is used by Netbackup instead of "mymaster1"...

Is there a way to force the media used for replication to be the master "mymaster1" ?
Hi;
I am trying to restore sql backup from tape. I set all the tape copies primary from catalog. If i try to restore a backup image just one stripe, everything is ok. Hovewer, if i try to restore a database including two images(backed up with two stripes), operation is failing. What am i doing wrong? Please help!
I've set up ndmp numerous times with SSO under Solaris but have issues with same on a windows media server.
Using the Configure Storage Devices wizard on master, when I select the media server in question and head off to modify it, the NDMP tickbox is not active: consequently it wont reconfig it for SSO/NDMP.
If I go to the media server in question and ask it to autoconf verify or probe they both head to the filer and are successful at retrieving the info I would expect.
Ditto on the master server.
Problem media server is on 7.1,w2008, master(Solaris) is 7504.
Windows firewall possibly? Or the bit I neglected to do possibly?
Your input appreciated, thanks Jim.
Hi everyone!
Just wondering if I can get some help on an issue while trying to upgrade a Netbackup 7.0.1 Media Server to 7.5.
When I run the install for 7.5 I get the message below:
=== Removing pre-existing package ====
Wer using Symantec Netback up V7.5.0.4 on a Windows Server 2008 Service pack 2 and all our other tapes\jobs are completing without issues. Only our SQL data is not getting backed up. Pretty much a novice at reading errors so help would be very much appreciated. Here is a copy of the logs below.
Look forward to any suggestions.

I am trying to monitor Netbackup by sending SNMP traps to the remote snmp server.
I am running on Linux RHEL 6.2 environment
Master Netbackup 7.5.0.3
Opscenter 7.5.
both snmp and snmptrapd are up running
ping between the snmp server and opscenter works fine.
I am able to see alerts in Opscenter GUI and to receive them via email but no snmp traps are sent to the remote snmp server.
Here is an excerpt of the trap log:

When I bring up the details window on a job I see data for estimated files and estimated kilobytes. I want to turn off that feature. I know that on windows clients I can disable the client job tracker. Can someone tell me how to turn it off on a Linux client?
Hello,
We have 5 Windows clients that keep getting the status code (156) snapshot error encountered error for Incremental backups.
I did the following procedure
To confirm if VSS or VSP open file backups are activated:
1. Within the NetBackup Administration Console, expand Host Properties in the right hand pane
2. Within Host Properties, click Master Server and then the double-click the name of the Master Server in the right pane
3. Click on the Client Attributes section
4. If the client in question is listed here, click on the client name. If it is not listed, add and click on the client name.
5. Click the Windows Open File Backup tab
6. Ensure that Enable Windows Open File Backups for this client is not selected if open file backups are not required>>>This was originally selected/enabled and everything was fine for a while however, recently the the status code 156 start occurring (every night) so I then I unchecked the Enable Windows Open File Backups for this client.
I am still getting the code 156 errors, these servers backups were backing up fine until a few weeks ago then all of a sudden they started getting the status code 156 errors.
Either I don’t have the following logs or there’s nothing in them to look at
bpfis log
bpbkar log
FYI – These are NOT VM backups
Windows 2008 standard SP2
NetBackup Client is also 7.5
Netbackup 7.5 running on Linux
Thanks in Advance!
We just upgraded to 7.5.0.4 and we are using one master with 5 media servers. All but one server are HP-UX, the other is Linux redhat. In the java console we keep getting these messages saying "ErrorHandler -- getResilientNetworkStatus". What does this mean? We don't use any of the resilient network features at this point.
I have been manually updating my client servers from NetBackup 6.5 to 7.1. They have all been Dell R710, all running at least RHEL 5.7, all X86_64. I have one R710 server running RHEL 5.5, X86_64.. When I run the install, I get the "Platform Client Menu". This isn't how the other installations have behaved. I checked the compatibility list, and I don't see anything about 5.5 being a problem. Is there something else I can check?
I'm attempting to configure NetBackup 7.1.0.2 to backup my SQL Server 2008 R2 databases. When I enter credentials on the SQL Server connection properties screen, I get the dreaded "Internal error. See the dbclient log for more information" error message. Here is the contents of the log:

I've looked at the other posts that have similar issues but haven't seen any recommendations that would fit our scenario (Remote Registry is running, the sa account has full sysadmin rights, the MSSQL Client was started with RunAs using an Administrator account, etc.). Any suggestions as to other things I might try?

Hello,
Is possible to run Netbackup commands from the master server on multiple Media servers at same time? How?
For example if i want to stop netbackup service on more than one media server at the same time instead of loggin to sever by sever
Thanks all

Hi all,
My systems was running Netbackup 7.0.1 backing up virtual machines using VMware API (backup host), backups were running without any issues at all for about one year os so. recently( yesterday) I upgraded the backup servers (Solaris 10 64 bit) and the backup host to Netbackup 7.5.0.3, after the upgtrade all the VMware backups are failing with codes 13 and 156, I am not able to browse or select any virtual machines.
I have created 3 support cases with Symantec support but have not got anywhere.
Hoping that someone in this group can help me out
Thanks
All,
I have a problem with a slow data stream when running a Netbackup Media Server 7.5.0.3 on RedHat 5.8. We are migrating systems from Solaris 10 to RedHat 5.8. The speed on Solaris 10 is about twice as fast as the RedHat 5.8 system. Also, we have no problem with earlier versions of RedHat, just 5.8. I was told that the 5.8 version is a different animal than even RedHat 5.6. Is there a different OS config I need to set up to get RedHat 5.8 and Netbackup 7.5 to get along? Possibly buffer changes, kernel tweaks, etc?
Thanks.
