How to seperate Snapshot and Backup from snapshot jobs without SLP

I need a solution

Hi experts,

As you know, without a SLP, if one policy usually complete snapshot and backup from snapshot in one time.

If backup job faild, it will remove the snapshot.

Also, we can choose "Snapshot only" on schedule tab, but user need mount the snapshot volume manually and initiate backup, not convinient.

So, could someone show me how to seperate Snapshot and Backup from snapshot jobs without SLP?

Many thanks!

BTW, since my SLP configuration for my MS SQL policy met problem (said MS SQL Policy type is not compatible with SLP, default appliacation schedule is not compatible with SLP.), bpdbm log attached FYI.

Hopefully experts can help me out~~

Thanks.

Does anyone have a NetBackup Master 7.5.x running on Solaris 11 LDOM? i know it supported but will there be bugs?

Solaris 11 Netbackup Global and Local Zones

I need a solution

New install of a Master Server and 2 media servers using Solaris 11 Zones Netbackup 7.5.0.4

Example:

Media Server ( Media_1 ) installed on a Global Zone

Master Server ( Master_1 ) installed on the local zone which is the same physical server as Media_1

New Physical server has ( Media_2) on a Global Zone

This all works fine until you shut down the Netbackup daemons on the Media_1 server ,

Part of the ( netbackup ) shutdown script will run a ps -ea and grep for nbemm and shutdown the master servers nbemm.,

The reason is the script does not defined if the process_id is running on the local or global zone,.

In the above example the netbackup ( ps -ea | grep nbemm ) finds only process_id of nbemm and kills it

This proccess_id is actually in the local zone so it kills the masters nbemm.

Questions:

1) Do we support this example. We do state we Symantec Supports a master server is a local zone., How about a master and media server on a physical server using the global and local zones.

2) If this is support is there a way to change the ( netbackup ) start/stop switch so the ps -eaZ command will be used to select the correct zone when killing process ids .

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

KB 2709236 on Microsoft's website reveals that "0x00000050 Stop error when Windows tries to back up registry hives on a computer that is running Windows Vista SP2 or Windows Server 2008 SP2"

Hotfix is available.
This was causing problems for us when we did Open File Backups.

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Hi all,

I got status 1 when doing catalog backup which store in a media server's staging. When I look into the bpbkar directory in master server, I find it didn't generate any log. I have enable the logging to 5 and also try with "bpbkar32 -nocont c:\ > nul 2>temp.f" on windows(master) but it return to command prompt immediate and still nothing under bpbkar.

Can someone help me resolve it....

SAN Media Server & SAN Clients

I need a solution

Dear All ,

I have a client with Linux installed which I wanted to configure the backup over SAN for it when I began starting the steps for the SAN configuration I found that ths client name is found in the SAN Clients tab in the administration GUI interface but when right click to view FT connctions , I found nothing and when I check the details of the backup jobs taken from this server I found that the backup is still being taken on LAN from the transport type which was LAN and because when I read in the details I found this error FT client No Device configured

so I went to the client and found the tape library was correctly configured and the Client can see the tape library and its two tape drives

When I go to the administration console I can't find any FT media servers configuered so what I feel that the engineer before me tried to configure the SAN media server but he did a wrong steps or he mixed steps from both SAN media server and SAN Client

so can any one give some recommedations like how can I check on the san media server license prescence ? like what are the steps for configuring the media servers and how to use this linux system as a SAN media server ? wether it's better to be used as a SAN media server or as SAN Client ? what is the exact name for the SAN Media server license because I can't find any with this name in the license administration console ? I ony find SAN Client , Full Enterprise server , Remote Media Server

The netbackup master server is 7.5 & installed on Solaris 10 and the client on Linux is 7.5

Thanks & Best Regards,

    Mahmoud

Client Side Encryption with different versions of Master and Media

I need a solution

For Client Side Encryption option, It is required to have the client running the same version of NetBackup as the master server. It is also recommended to have them patched to the same level.

We are upgrading NetBackup Master from 7.0.1 to 7.5.0.4 and for interim period the Master Server, Media Servers and clients will be on different versions.

How will NetBackup react for client side encrypted backups if:

Master Server and Client have different Versions

Master Server and Media Server have different Versions

Media server and client have different versions

bpclimagelist -T switch

I need a solution

Hi,

Can someone explain me where -T (uppercase T) switch stands for in the bpclimagelist command?

In the documentation they are only speaking off a -t (lowercase t) switch which gives me an entirly other result.

I was having problems during a BMR test restore. The BMR restore always ended with "failed to verify backup rc 227".I did found the reason for this error but I was looking up more information about the bpclimagelist command.

So can anyone tell me more about the undocumented -T switch?

Erwin

Error backing up database

I need a solution

Backing up SQL Server 2000 db (don't ask).  NetBackup SQL Client connects to one instance on the server works fine.  Connection to other instance fails.  No problems with either in Enterprise manager.  Before I bounce this back at the DBAs, I want to make sure it's not an NBU problem.

SLP and Vault......

I need a solution

Windows 2008r2 environment, NBU 7.5.0.4, using Vault and SLP duplication.

Hi all,

Due to contractual obligations, some of my backups require duplication from our primary disk storage (datadomain) to our secondary datadomain. But, a third copy must be sent offsite on tape. I feel that this is an antiquated process, but I have to do it.

Currently, I use SLP to duplcate the data from the primary disk to the secondary disk across town through our metro e connection. Also, I have the same policy set up in a the vault profile to duplicate the original back over to tape once the backup to primary disk completes. I know that SLP can handle all of this by itself, but I have had very bad issues with using SLP to duplicate data to tape in our high volume environment. My question is, how does Netbackup know which copy is copy 2 and which is copy 3? My guess would be that copy 2 would be the SLP job to the secondary disk since SLP starts as soon as the job completes, and the vault job would be copy 3 since vault is essentially scheduled (even though our vault duplications, and backups never stop...they run 24/7/365 with no breaks other than for maintenance.) Also, is it a good idea to use both SLP and Vault to copy the same data to two different sources like that?

Thanks,

NDMP backup failure  (99)

I have used tpautoconf to check my connections and vmoprcmd to check my drives. After several failed backups I sometimes have to bring them back up. I have noticed that small jobs usually finish with no problem but big ones go down before they can finish. The fragment size to my drives is 1,048,575 MB if that helps. Any suggestions would be appreciated

My bigger jobs will usually fail after about 10 to 16 minutes.

Adding barcode labels to tapes already used in NetBackup

I need a solution

We are currently in the process of putting a new media server and robot at an existing site.  The current setup is an unmanaged tape drive which is using AVR in NetBackup to create the media labels, this drive has no bardode reader and the tapes have no barcode labels on them.

The existing media server is running NBU 7.0 and Windows 2003, the new media server will be NBU 7.1.0.4 and Windows 2008 R2 (the master server in this NBU domain is running 7.1.0.4)

We would like to put in a new media server and a robot which has barcode reading capabilities and add barcode labels to all the existing tapes (most of which have valid data on them) so they can continue to be used.  The old media server and tape drive will be decomissioned.

I'm looking for a way we can do this, and keep the existing data on the tapes available for restores.

---

Firstly I believe we need to move the media from the old media server to the new one using the command below (can use bpmedialist -mlist -l -h <oldserver> to list the tapes which have valid images on them)

bpmedia  -movedb  -allvolumes   -oldserver   <decommisioned_media_server>   -newserver <media_server_inheriting_media>

Once this is done I believe I can use the vmchange command to update the media information, but I'm not sure of the exact steps required, or the order in which to do them. I am under the impression that if we simply put barcode labels on the tapes and inventory them into the new robot we will run into trouble. Lets assume one of the existing Media ID is A00015 and the new barcode label is XYZ123L4 and this tape has valid data on it that we would like to be able to easily restore if needed.

If someone can help out with this query we would appreciate it!

Many thanks

Verifying DB2 backup images using db2ckbkp command

I need a solution

NBU Version 7.1.0.4 (Linux)

Hi all,

We are just starting to use the DB2 agent in our environment, and wanted to find out about verifying DB2 backups using the db2ckbkp command. I have read all the guides I can but haven't been able to find the information.

As per process of obtaining the DB2 backup list we run the following command - bplist -C <Client> -t 18 -l -R /

This gives us the following output.

-rw-rw-r-- db2inst1  staff      137610056K Jan 23 11:31 /DB2/TESTDB/node0000/20130123113137/TESTDB.0.db2inst1.node0000.0.20130123113137.1

What I want to know is if it is possible to somehow verify this image from DB2 using the db2ckbkp command?

Previously we would run the following command against an image to get the header information.

db2ckbkp -h SAMPLE2.0.TEST.NODE0000.CATN0000.19990818122909.001
