I am getting when I am restoring a file from a backup I did 2 weeks ago.
We are running Netbackup 7.5. On a Windows platform.
Tapes loaded fine, cleaned all 8 drives and fired off the restore.
This is the error message i get
Error bptm (PID=5680) error requesting media TpErrno= Robot operation failed.
Can anyone help

i'm facing some trouble backuping Hyper-v machines on CSV cluster with NetBackup 7.5.0.4.
I have an Hyper-V cluster with 4 nodes. When i look into Failover cluster manager ==> Cluster Shared Volumes i can see VM on state "Redirected Access"
or "Backup in progress, redirected access" even if no backups are running...
When a backup starts on this cluster jobs can stay on "Begin Snapshot" status for weeks if we don't cancel it. Several bpfis process can be seen on the Hyper-v host.
When i look into DOS command ==> DISKSHADOW> list shadows all i can see 7 old shadow copies from August 2012. It seems that some old backups failed and snapshots
weren't deleted, so VM's stuck in "redirected access" mode.
Is it safe to delete those old shadow copies and retry a backup ?

NBU 7.1.0.4. 2008R2. my tape libray has 2 drives. In vault duplicarion I have set it up to use 2 drives. when I look at my vault jobs it seems to be backing up clients on both drives which I am assuming is backing up the client twice. This may be causing the backup to run twice as long. I thought if I select 2 drives it would write faster and backup different clients on each drive thus taking shaoter time. Can any one explain this to me. thanks

There are other servers in the backup job that are succesfully backed up. so it is just one client.
The normal all drives backup works but just not the Aplliaction backup for SQL.
VMtools are up to date, netbackup is 7.5.0.4 client and master server.
I have searched for this error but cannot find anyone with a similar issue.

We are trying to Decommission a media server. We tried below listed,
HP-UX Master and Media server with NBU version 6.5.6.
1) bpmedialist -mlist -h mediaserver (It does not show any tape media associated with this media server)
2) bpmedialist -summary (it also does not show any tape media with this media server)
3) nbemmcmd -listmedia -allrecords (it gives some output with "Last Write Host" along mediaserver name we need to decomm)
4) bpmedialist -mlist -m <media-id> (picked one media from above output, and found Host Name as = Unristricted-Sharing-Group)
I guess it shows that the media is not assigned to a particular host, it is even assigned to "Unristricted-Sharing-Group".
5) bpmedia -movedb -m <media-d> -oldserver <oldservername> -newserver <newservername>
It gives error like as (media ID is not assigned to host in EMM database)
My Query is : In step 3 "Last Write Host" pointing the media server. How can I remove this ?
Or is it feasible to decomm the mediaserver without considering or by ignoring "Last Write Host" entry and put entry in "Restore Host Override". Would that work, for future purpose in case any restore may required for the backup taken by this media server ?
Please assist me how to process with this task.

I have a new Windows 2008 r2 server running Master&Media server v7.5.0.5.
I have a Arcvault 12 tape library - which Windows 2008 r2 sees correctly in Device Manager and I have installed the latest HP drivers (v3.7.0.0) for the Ultrium LTO 4 that is in that library.
Backing up clients to a DSSU (basic disk). That appears to work really well.
I can backup the DSSU to tape and everything works, except the tape drive backup speed is rock bottom - around 2MB/sec.
Running HP's tape tool on the system to test outside of NB, I get tape write speeds around 70MB/sec.
I've tried different SIZE_DATA_THIS and NUMBER_DATA_THAT settings with no tape write speed changes.
Any thoughts?

Not sure if this is a duplicate post...tried earlier but it disappeared.
I need to duplicate to tape images that are under an SLP that failed. Fits the situation in TECH60675, nothing in the output of nbstlutil, but any attempt to manually duplicate gets the message "it is a lifecycle image that cannot be manually duplicated"
Tech60675 says "the NetBackup administrator has the ability via the Command Line Interface to release the lock on the image by changing the state to "Lifecycle Complete" in the catalog. The Catalog functions can now be used to run the duplications manually to the other storage destinations.", but it does not say how. I looked at bpimage and bpstlutil, including any hidden options.
This is NetBackup 6.5.6 on Solaris.
Anyone know how to change the image state to 'LifeCycle Complete' (state 3)?

I have installed Netbackup 7.0 Master and Media servers on Windows 2008 R2 platform and Netbackup7.0 Client on another Windows2008R2 server.
Storage Unit is configured as BasicDisk which is internal disk. I can take normal backups and restore them successfully.
I have configured Master server as BMR boot server as well. I have taken BMR backup through backup policy which went successfull.
I can my Master server as BMR Boot server as well. Unfortunately I am unable to see BMR client in Netbackup Administration Console -> Bare Metal Restore Management -> Hosts -> Bare Metal Restore Clients.
Can anyone help me where I went wrong? I want to restore that BMR backup on another server.

Issue:
All of our backups were ending with a Status 96.
Job Overview Status:
Unable to allocate new media for backup, storage unit has none available(96)
Detailed Status:
Error bptm(pid=3324) incorrect media found in drive index 0, expected 6500L4, found 003395, FREEZING 6500L4
Other Noticable Manifistation:
All scratch media that encounters this error immediately becomes Frozen and gets moved to the Scratch volume pool.
Solution:
1. Confirm that the Media ID Generation Rule is configured properly.
Access from: (Media and Device Manager > Media > Robots > TLD (X) > Inventory Robot > Advanced Options > Media Generation ID)
Note: The standard rule with 1:2:3:4:5:6 was causing issues by intermittently labeling new media with either the first (6) digits or the last (6) digits of the barcodes (Barcode Format: 00XXXXL4).
If you look at the (Detailed Status) error, you'll notice that this tape was once labeled 006500 by the Media ID Generation rule; however, this tape was deleted from inventory and re-added as 6500L4 by the same Media ID Generation Rule.
In order to prevent these labeling issues and maintain uniform inventory, I changed the Media ID Generation Rule to 3:4:5:6:7:8. This rule will now strip the first two zeros and detect the barcode value of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th digit. This will achieve the desired 6500L4 Media ID format.
2. Go to (Media and Device > Media) and select all of the Frozen media which triggered the status 96 failures.
3. Unfreeze all of the highlighted media. You'll notice that all of the media will instantly become part of the Scratch volume pool.
4. The media that you just unfroze should still be highlighted. If so, please proceed to click on (Actions > Label) and uncheck "Verify media label before performing operation".
5. MAKE SURE THAT THE MEDIA DOESN'T HAVE IMPORTANT DATA. IF IT HAS IMPORTANT DATA.... PLEASE DO NOT PROCEED.
6. Follow the prompts to complete the process.
7. A Media Label job will show up in Activity Monitor for every selected tape. The Detailed Status of the jobs will contain the following entry:
3/2/2013 12:11:34 PM - labeling 6500L4 <---- This is the correct Media ID format for us. Your's may be totally different.
8. If the Media Label jobs complete successfully and the labeling looks correct, go to (View > Refresh All) and confirm that the media resides in the Scratch volume pool. If so, please feel free to run a test backup.
I'm hoping that this information will save someone (5) hours. Please let me know if it helps.
Finally... don't waste time manually running BPEXPDATE on already expired media. Save yourself the grief. ;)
I know volume group are logical groups for the physical location of the media.
At NetBackup 7.x it does run on a client, BUT, at the moment a client can still use vnetd or even bpcd.
What does it do, it sits there waiting for an incoming connection, and then hands it off the the relevant process.
For example, a media server used to connect to a client directly to bpcd, if using pbx, then the media server connects to pbx, and pbx then hands the connection to bpcd.
It is the same on master and media servers. Incoming connections go to PBX and PBX then hand the connection across to another process.
For example, if you run nbemmcmd -listhosts on a media server the connection goes to PBX on the master, PBX then hands the connectio to nbemm

I've been trying to get a copy of NBU 6.5 installers however after trying to get the copy via http://fileconnect.symantec.com it says the product version I've been trying to download is not available anymore. I have checked it with customer care and they also confirmed it's NO longer available.
How/where else can I have a copy of this version? Any comment, thanks in advance.
There must be a better way than this to get a list that has media type, robot control host and robot number.

We are taking the file system backup of the UNIX client where is we are unble to take the backup of 2 mount points. Backup is failing with an error code =23. When i checke the details of the folders from the last successful backup i observed that there are many folders/files under these mount points.
We have increased the timeout vault to 4000 and upgraded the netbackup client version to 7.0.1 as master level.Still it is failing with same error after writing few gb of data. Would like to know is there any configuration needs to be updated to fix the issue.

When my backup runs on tape,a unique backup ID is generated of the form client name_ctime.
This backup ID is also written on the tape as backup header?
On tape,media header is equal to media id in NBU gui?
and backup header is equal to backup ID in Image catalog?Am i correct?
