Hello Forum, I have a quick question regarding NetBackup backup terms and definitions. What are the distinctions, if any, between NetBackup replication and duplication ?
We have NBU 6.5.6 unix master and windows media server
We have mapped \\Server1\users on media server and created a windows type policy with schedule type as User Archive
We have then kicked off user archive backup from BAR on media server for \\Server1\users\user1 and the backup completed with partial success with below warnings. It didn't delete the backed up files.
Jan 7, 2014 7:16:02 PM - Warning bpbrm (pid=12488) from client mediaservername: WRN - Could not remove directory: \\Server1\USERS\mikesugg\Music, (error 5)
Jan 7, 2014 7:16:03 PM - Warning bpbrm (pid=12488) from client mediaservername: WRN - Could not remove file: \\Server1\USERS\mikesugg\Backup\ATL-LAP-060124A\Desktop.ini, (error 5)
the requested operation was partially successful (1)
Hi everyone,
Hi guys, I am a bit stuck here with a problem regarding a couple of SLPs I have here.
Thing is, a tape library we had in a remote site died, and had to buy a new one. I had to modify my slps to stop them from going to the remote site and stay local.
Now when I activate the replication again, it will not duplicate my old images.
The configuration I have is:
Site 1:
Master server: NBU 7.5.0.4 - windows 2008 r2
Data Domain box.
Site 2:
Media Server: NBU 7.5.0.4 - Windows 2003
Data Domain box
So I was duplicating my images by making them go like this:
Step 1: Data domain site 1.
Step 2: tape drive site 1
Step 3: data domain site 2
Step 4: tape drive site 2
Now I am stuck with a bunch of images that should have expired in my Data Domain long ago, I have no duplication on the local tape drive, nor remote site.
For example:
Hello all,
We recently purchased a new server for a hardware refresh of the master server. Our old master server is NetBackup 7.5.0.4 installed on Solaris 10. The plan is to go to NetBackup 7.5.0.4 on RHEL 6.4 as it is still considered in the UNIX realm according to Symantec. I read TECH77448 and some other forum posts which helped me understand the process (e.g. keeping the same hostname etc.)
My question is after the catalog restore will the policies from the old master server be transferred over to the new master server by using the Disaster Recovery file?
Do all the policies need to be in the critical policies area for recovery?
Anything else I am missing or I should watch out for from going to RHEL6.4 ?
Thanks in advance!
We've had a hard time working with Symantec figuring out how to automate tasks and get consist ant results using the command line tools along with the GUI.
The NetBackup Command Reference only gets us part of the way, Google helps sometimes, but we're looking for more. We've also noticed that we have more silent failures of the command line with no action taken and no results returned as we have moved up to 7.5.0.6.
The same challenges apply to getting all the information we would like to report on and monitor on our appliances.
We've also had a lot of struggles recently in attempting to get enough documentation to get enough data out of the OpsCenter database. We updated our OpsCenter server to 7.6 so we had a documented schema for the database. The schema documentation was great to get us started, but as soon as we delved a bit deeper, we ended up stuck especially working with schedules and policies.
We've been told support is only available for break/fix work, and problems with documentation is the land of engineering and professional services.
Has anyone else had any luck finding a good and timely source of support for either (or both!) of these issues, or other creative solutions?
Dear Experts
Just curious to know, vmdareq -display or vmdareq -driveinfo & vmoprocmd output not matching.
The number of drives I see in vmoprcmd o/p , but I do not see few of the drives in the output of vmdareq -display or -driveinfo
Can someone please clarify.
Regards!
Hi Experts,
Backups are getting failed to the Storage Appliance if it is gets down. So need to plan the alternate solution/automation of manual steps to avoid the manual change of storage unit in the policy. And delay in firing the Backups.
Hallo.
Kann mir jemand sagen welche Bedeutung das Zeichen ( siehe Anhang ) im Restore Fenster hat?
Sieht aus wie das deutsche "Eingeschränktes Haltverbot" Zeichen.
Danke

Hi all,
Does anyone know a way of listing policies that have a specific schedule?
It appears possible in the admin console - Policies - Summary of all Policies, adding Policy Name to the column layout, and indexing the list by the required schedule name, but unlike the other views in the Summary, you cannot copy and paste out to excel for example.
bpplist seems to be where I need to head, but I'm no good at manipulating the output.
Thanks in advance.
Matt
Back up jobs are failing with EC2009 as NDMP drives are down on media server. The NDMP drives are visible in tpconfig -d output but not in tpautoconf -t output.Enen after the drives were made up, they are not visible in tpautoconf -t.
tpautoconf -probe ndmp_host command from media server gives following error. Also please tell how to check the path for NDMP drives at OS level
tpautoconf -probe ndmp_host This NDMP hostname does not exist. Internal NDMP error
Does anyone have confiugration steps for taking backups of NetApp filers using NDMP?

Hi again folks,
So I am coming up to a year learning Netbackup (was hired as a Junior Analyst with NO previous experience in NBU) and lets just say the process has been challenging but equally as interesting so forgive me if I cross wires. I though I would start this thread to get input from people who have done a similar process or could highlight any points I may have overlooked.
I have been tasked with coming up with a plan to completely decommission a legacy site and move only the master server and approx 9000 tapes over to another site in the UK. The library itself is not required as it has LT03's and the new location has LT05's so they have the ability to read only which will help us in the event of an historic restore.
The master server (O/S - SunOS 5.10/NBU version 6.5.5) has 7 media servers attached (6 of which are Sun OS5.10/NBU 6.5.5 and 1 of which is Linux 2.6el5/NBU version 6.5.3) which I have been told are getting demolished so its my understanding (from the numerous tech notes I have read) that I will firstly need to identify tapes which have valid images on them, using the bpmedialist command. Then I will need to make the master server inherit these tapes to give me the ability to perform restores which I believe will be done using the bpmedia command.
Then I will need to turn the master server off (presumably hosting the master server elsewhere in the meantime), get it moved over here, then bring it back online.
Now I am not asking for an exact plan but perhaps a rough guidline as to what else is involved or anything else I have overlooked.
Any and all help is much appreciated people and hopefully (in a decade) I will be in a position to cascade what I have learnt to someone in a similar position :)
Please help with steps for below issue :
i need to resolve error with code 23
I'm just trying to get hold of a current SYMCquiesce utility RPM for installation on some Linux boxes... however, everything I see references a *WINDOWS* directory to get hold of the ISO. I don't have *any* Windows NetBackup server installs in my envrionement. So how do I just get hold of the SYMCquiesce RPM?
Thanks!
Hi ,
We are in process of restoring our database to a test server.
As per the backup administrator, one channel got failed on Symantec net backup though we are not getting any errors in RMAN logfile.
But one of channel was waiting indefinelty on "Backup: MML read backup piece" without any progress in restore. So we decided to kill RMAN job after 12 hours of inactivity.
A new RMAN job was started to restore the failed 26 datafiles out of around 800 datafiles which got restored successfully. 26 datafiles is part of a single backup piece which comes around 1.2 TB.
But the problem we are facing now is , restore of these datafiles is pretty slow and backup team innformed us Symantec is restoring 1.2TB each time when a datafile get restored to the DB. Its been around 14 hours and we have restored around 6 files ( Total size of around 60GB) till now. Wait event on Oracle side is "Backup: MML read backup piece"
Is this a expected behaviour from Syamntec , read/restore the whole backuppiece for restoring one datafile?
Thanks,
Arun
