NBU Catalog destination is very big with low images retention (2weeks)

before to write this discussion, i've spent some time reading about the problem i'm facing.
I found that NBU cat directory where i do a copy of catalog is growing so much even if i keep it only for 2 weeks.
It use 68G of space on disk.
I think it is so much.

Why tapes are getting freezed?

Dears in Support,
We are having strange problem with tapes getting freezed once a month and if we unfreeze them and restart all services or reboot the server then we are able to start backing up normally. My question is here, Why do these tapes are getting freezed? and we are actaully getting "storage unit has none available(96)" error. Others servers are running smoothly and we are having this problem with only one of our servers.
We are running:
1) Netback 7.1.03, On windows server 2008 R2
2) Dell EKM 3.0
Anybody can tells how to findout the reason for tapes being freezed?

C Drive backup is getting failed with Netbackup Error Code 13

Hi All,
Facing a problem with few of the windows server. Previously it was netbackup 6.5 in our environment and data was getting backed up to tape. Now we have upgraded the netbackup to 7.1 and the data is getting backed up to Data Domain. Few of the C drives of windows server are getting failed with netbackup error code 13. From the master server I have increased the Client read time out and file browse time out to 3600 for the client.
Master Server Details :
HARDWARE LINUX_RH_X86
VERSION NetBackup 7.1.0.3
Media server Details:
Same as Master server
Client details : Windows 2008 R2 Standard 64 bit
NB version 7.1.0.3

Test Query Error
I need a solution
I keep getting: Read Operation failed, nbu status = 1, severity = 2.
I get this on most test querys when trying to create a policy. Is this an error on my part, or something the matter with the server?
My query that I'm testing:
vmware:/?filter=Displayname IsSet AND Template Equal TRUE
Search and can't find that error message. Also see this error in the logs/wingui folder.
NBU Master Server is 7.5.0.7, local disk storage... What other info do you need?

Migrate policies from one master to another (different OS)
I need a solution
Can you copy policy information from /usr/openv/netbackup/db/class from a RHEL master server to a Windows master server?
This article has concerns about same OS and same NBU version.
As part of an aquisition, we're going to be combining 2 NBU domains, both running the same version of NetBackup, and wish to ditch the RHEL box and move to Windows. We simply going to correct the storage the policies are using, and point the clients at the new master. The old RHEL box will remain in place for restores until the remaining images expire. We've recreated policies for other domains we've added, but this one in particular has a significant amount of policies and creative backup selections.
Any foreseeable issues?

Jobs priority in Activity monitor

Hi,
We are runing netbackup 7.5.0.6 environment on Windows server 2008.
We have a lot of SLP runing all day, They always takes all the Physical Tape library slots.
when we want to do a restore we find ourself canceling a lot of slp in a desperate way to find an empty driver for the restore to work.
We try to work with the Priority of jobs but it dosent seem to work that good.
On the master server properties i try to config SLP Prio but i dont see any SLP defenition there.
There is a Duplication defenition that is on 5000. When I open the SLP job details i see the priority is on 0.
Why is that ?
also - backup priority is 4000, when you open job detail on the backup you also see priority is 0.
basicly we want to find a way to make the restore jobs work straight away with canceling slps and hopeing for one empty driver slot.
Can you help?

For example now we started the policy with 5TB .Now it is normal . But after 3-4 hour it will give error again.
But we have 185 available media,

NDMP backups on disk with DD OST
I need a solution
Hi,
We need to configure NDMP backup (EMC VNX NAS filer) to DD 990, but we do not want to use VTL feature, instead want to use DD BOOSt and want to have NDMP backup on disk via SAN.
Is the below mentioned things supported in netbackup
1) Nas Filer--EMC VNX
2) Netbackup Version 7.5.0.6
3) NDMP backups on disk (DD 990 with DD boost) over SAN
4) Matsre and Media servers will have RHEL 6 as OS
We also planning to use disk storage of DD 990 with DD boost over FC for all other backups.

Netbackup 7.6.0.1 vCenter Plugin - certificate issues
I need a solution
Hi everyone,
Wondering if anyone has any experience of the new plugin for vCenter yet?
I have managed to install the virtual appliance with no issues and can see the plugin.
However when I come to add the master server, and providing the authentication token I recieve the attached error, which possibly indicates that the certificate has expired.
Is anyone able to explain this to me and hopefully offer a workaround?

I ran a catalog backup and it started total 4 jobs. One parent job and 3 child process as per attachment.
I need to know is it fixed that every time it takes full backup of catalog it will execute 4 jobs?
what's the logic behind how much parent job and child job would netbackup execute in any backup and restore and who decides how much child jobs needs to be run?

Need to freeze an unassigned media

Hi Team,
I want to freeze an unassigned media in NBU 7.1.0.4
I tried to fake assign media using vmquery command but it fails.
Command : vmquery .exe -assignbyid <media_id> HCART2 4 0 13/01/2014
It fails with below error
Assign media by ID is not allowed for NetBackup media.
invalid media ID (8)
Please help.

I wanna ask if anyone has ever tried to create NetBackup virtual storage units (application cluster) for mailbox servers of Exchange 2010 DAG?
I have 2 mailbox servers which are NetBackup media servers: MBX1 and MBX2.
There are 8 mailbox databases which resides alternately between mailbox servers:
DB1 active on MBX1 and passive on MBX2
DB2 passive on MBX1 and active on MBX2
DB3 active on MBX1 and passive on MBX2
DB4 passive on MBX1 and active on MBX2
....
DB8 passive on MBX1 and active on MBX2.
Now, I use 8 policies and manually pick storage unit of media server where appropriate database is active... but what if database switch to other mailbox server?
I wanna automate this process like it is for SQL backups using application cluster and virtual storage units.

NBU encryption keys
I need a solution
when i tried to create a new encryption key on NBU master (7.5.0.6), i got an error message saying "reach the encryption key maximum". this is the first time we see that. we have two encryption keys applied (encryption (legacy DES-40-bit), encryption (legace DES-56-bit)). do we have to buy more and how VERITAS count the encryption keys? we are using the encryption for all of our tape drives. usually we create a new key every new quarter, looks so far we have 7 keys created.
