Unable to run inventory (unable to open robotic path 201)

I need a solution

Hi there,

I was busy ejecting tapes this morning, and I accedentally logged off the system while the eject was running, logged back in and the window as you know was not there anymore to show updates and progress of tapes eject, and I removed the tapes once it was completed. However as a result of this I am now unable to run the inventory again since I made this mistake, I know normally a reboot of the server to re-establish a path to the robot will resolve this, however I have full backups running and they still seem to be running okay, I cannot stop them now but need to continue removing tapes and updating the inventory.

How can I get the path up and running again to the robot? (also what is strange to me is with the path to the robot down hence my error, how is it that the job running is still able to write to the robot that lost the path?)

Possibly because the tape that is in the drive at the moment is still writing and that the moment it ejects to ask for a new one, the job will most probably fail until issue is resolved?

I need a solution

hello.

My environment is the following: Master server on HP-UX, client on Linus, both in version 7.1.0.4 of Netbackup.

I want to obtain the list of excluded and included directories for the backup.

I have started with a client where there are exclusion files created, and which create no backups problems.

When I try to execute a bpgetconfig from the master server, user root, the command works:

bpgetconfig bpecc0002vz.unix.banksys.be

I need a solution

Hi Everyone,

I would like to know if the HPx86 based nodes using Red Hat Linux 6 as OS is compatible with Netbackup 7.5 using Solaris10.

Do we need to install the netbackup agent on HP and we'll have a normal communicationwith the server to make several backups.

Also, whether the BMR will run without any issue.

Thanks

NBU 7.5.0.6 (client and master/media)

master/media  2008 R2

I backup to disk and then vault to tape. My disk ran out of space and a couple of jobs were suspended. I cleared my disk and right clicked and the jobs and selected resume. They jobs do not start. i do not want to restart the jobs from the beginning as they take along time to complete. Looking at the details tab the jobs are about 70% complete. Whay can I do to restart the jobs from where they stopped? Thanks

NBU Operational and Best Practices Questions

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Friends,

Involved in few tasks and got couple of questions around storage servers, Tunning NBU etc and i was wondering if someone can share his/her experience.

One of my customers have got 5 storage servers that needs to be deleted but they have data sitting on them? is there anything else that needs to be done apart from duplicating the images to another storage server or tape to avoid any data loss..

Also, what are the best practices to increase the deduplication rate?

One of my customers has asked me to conduct a healthcheck and they have a precise backup window and they want us to backup more data to the tapes without increasing the time window.. what should be the best appraoch and where should i look to start things (logs, elapsed times, no of files etc) any starting point?

Backup Frequency Issue

I need a solution

Good Afternoon all,

We recently had to manually kick off some jobs due to they failing and not being noticed until they were outside of their window.  Due to them being kicked off manually the following weekend when they were scheduled (not by calendar) to run they did not kick off.  We use frequency on everything but monthly and yearly jobs.

These jobs were weekly full backups.  The frequency was set to 1 week, my thought to stop this from ever happening again is to set the frequency to 1 day, that way no matter when we have the weekly job scheduled to run it will run even if we had to do an manual the night before.

Is there any harm to doing this?

Number_Data_Buffers Question

I need a solution

So recently we made the move to SLPs.  We write to a virtual tape via a VTL and at the same time in the SLP we have duplications for two physical tapes.

Everything is going fine, all the SLPs and duplication finish fine, but today we noticed one ran way longer than it has in the past.  Looking at the details it showed.

1/6/2014 9:58:59 AM - Info bptm(pid=8972) media id FC4076 mounted on drive index 44, drivepath /dev/alias/nst/F0020EC025, drivename IBM.ULTRIUM-TD4.060, copy 3

the requested operation was successfully completed(0)

We then looked deeper and a large amound of SLPs have similar waiting for empty/full buffer lines.

So after some searching, it looks like we need to raise our buffer number, right now our NUMBER_DATA_BUFFERS is set to 32 while our SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS is set to 262144 (support had us set this to this number for path to tape to work).

Should changing from 32 to 64 or 128 help with this?

Thanks!

I need a solution

Hi,

I have 1 unix server with Oracle database which i would like to take backup over SAN. I also have 4 Hyper-V servers which also needs to be back it up over SAN. Lastly there are 2 SQL servers which i need to take backup over LAN and not SAN. The Server will be over SAN.

My question is does i need to purchase all the enterprise client or can i also purchase standard client for those servers which i can take the backup over LAN?

Also does purchasing enterprise client will support Netbackup Standard server? or does the enterprise client need enterprise server?

Thanks

I need a solution

Hi,

I have recently purchased  Backup exec 2012 which is already taking backup for few of the servers and i need to take backup for UNIX server. I know Backup Exec does not support UNIX and have to go with NetBackup in order to protect UNIX server.

Can i have Netbackup along with Backup Exec in same environment?

I have one tape drive in environement which is already in used with backup Exec. Can i use same Tape drive for Netbackup in same environement and does it also need a license?

Thanks

I need a solution

I have two Windows 2008 R2 clustered servers running NetBackup 7.5.0.7 as a master server.

I have 15 LUNs from 3PAR storage as PV on Redhat media server. Then I created VG and LV, file system is ext4, 15T size.

First problem: When I creating a storage server, using Media Server Dudepelication Pool type, I don't know where to put the "storage path" and how much

space does it need ?

QQ图片20140107222926.jpg

Second problem:After I created storage server, there is only one volume to select when creating PureDisk disk pool. This one is my root LV.

The 15T LV can't display on the selections.

I need a solution

Hello,

Suddenly, I see in the Netbackup console, when i start a backup task, the state is MEDIA IS IN USE and not running at all. I tried to cancel the job, restart the Storage library, restart the server, but remained the same state Media is in Use till sometime later after restart...

I would like to know from where, and what could help diagnosing this issue...

Thanks in advance!

Oracle Backups failing with status 6

I need a solution

Hi everyone,

I've migrated from an old Red Hat Master Server to a new NetBackup Appliance 5230 Master Server. I've done the following procedure to do the backups on new server:

1)Stop NBU services on client
2)Change SERVER entry on bp.conf on client pointing to new Master Server
3)Change hosts file adding IP of new Master Server
4)Start NetBackup services on client
5)Run bpclntcmd -clear_host_cache

Tested doing a file system backup and it worked. But when I try to do an Oracle Backup it gives me error 6

error6.png

As if it is a Script error, I've contacted the DBA Oracle and he said it gives him this error:

RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============

Just for you all to know it worked on my old server, the only changes were the ones done which I said before.

Unable to restore NDMP Backup

I need a solution

We are currently having an issue when restoring backups of our NDMP connected NetApp.  We have successfully backed up the data, but there seems to be an issue with any restore of that data.

We have confirmed that the NDMP resource is reachable:

C:\Program Files\Veritas\Volmgr\bin>tpautoconf  -verify plumfas02
Connecting to host "plumfas02" as user "netbackup"...
Waiting for connect notification message...

os version "NetApp Release 8.1.2 7-Mode"
  host id "1574505273"

Host supports LOCAL backup/restore

We have confirmed that the NDMP is listed with the FQDN:

I need a solution

Hi,

For my holding, with several companies using Netbackup, we want to implement a Rackspace cloud files storage, for secondary copies and long term archieves. But we don't want to do it in the pubic, but creating a private cloud.

Anybody knows if this is possible? Somebody did it? Would you share your experience?

thanks,

Peter

Flashbackup-Windows failing to validate

I need a solution

Hi,

I am running NBU 7.5.0.6 oh a RHEL master server and want to deploy Flashbackup-Windows on one of my W2008R2 clients which has over 3Tb of data comprised of millions of small files, at present this takes just over 3days to complete a full backup using traditional methods.

I have verified that VSS is running on the W2008 server and have cheked the writer using the vssadmin and these are fine, the client is behind a firewall in our DMZ so this may have some bearing on the problem.

The bpfis file contains the following errors:

I did read on a technote that under 7.5 the method was changed so the client has to read the masterserver vfm_master.conf to check the licences, it appears that this is failing in our environment, the technote suggests the following workaround:
Workaround #1 - Modify Firewall or Network configuration to allow NetBackup Windows clients to directly communicate with the NetBackup master server.

however is there any particular ports that would require opening other than the standard NBU ones which we already have opened as the standard backup works without error.

Cheers
