Hello. Have a client that has been successfully backing up over the last week, however, it began throwing status 84 errors over the weekend.
Client is Red Hat 6.2. Master is Win Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.

This is the only client backing up to this particular media server / storage unit. It had success until 2 days ago, and no one has been on campus since last Fri. Any guidance? A google search mentioned dedup jobs may still be ongoing etc, but the last good backup was on the 24th - can't imagine a differential backup would take 2+ days to process, so I figure something is going on.

Unable to send Alert Mails through Netbackup 7.0.1
I need a solution
Hi Experts,
I am new to NB and trying to configure mail services on my NB7.0 server.
I started by using the following Netbackup doc.:

and set my id in both the Global & Universal setitings as prescribed in the doc.
Later I tried a test backup with a wrong table name, so that it should fail and I should get a mail.
Result: No luck.
2. On further analysis came across the 'backup notify' feature and also entered my mail id and tried.
No luck this time too.
3. Tried with a sample mail:
Mail -s "hello" <my mail id>
This time got the error:
Postfix/public/pickup doesn't exists
I created the dir using FIFO command and also started the postfix service
4. When I ran the command again, got the message, you have a new mail in /var/mail/root
but I couldn't found my mail over there.
5. Tried again with the test backup but no luck.
Plz. suggest if I am missing something.

set up pool for daily, weekly, and EOM backup
I need a solution
I have 7.5 net backup in test env as of now. I have create a pool of scratch media. I have three type of backups will be running on this media server.
Daily with 47 (M-F) with retention of 35 days
weekly backup F(PM) - M-(AM) with retention of six months
EOM with retention of 7 years.
How Do I dedicate my pools of my tapes in scracth pool to Daily, weekly and Monthly and when the media is full it wiil be ejected and I can recyle the media, semd it to oof site location, and request them back for daiy and Monthly back to scratch pool when the retention is expired. This media is going off site and I have to generate a report to reqest them. Is this Possible?

Netbackup problem.
I need a solution
Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem with my backup job. The job keeps WRITING forever and when I check in DETAILED STATUS, it shows a list of status like "Info ndmpagent(pid=7248) hcm6040b: DUMP: Thu Dec 27 09:05:34 2012 : We have written 40940 KB"
This happens and other jobs cannot run with the error code 196 (backup windows closed). Can anyone help, please? Thanks in advance!

NBAC configuration

ws 2008 on nbu 7.5
Recently confgred NBAC on master server but when I check the Access Management and go to permissions of group. For the authorization object Policy when I clik coinfgue it select all the things below, activate,deactivate, new delete. I just want the option to check activate and new. Don't want anyone to deactivate or delete.
Please let me know if possible.
Also why we configure NBAC for client, what is the use?

Tape bar codes / media ID's

Hello. I'm moving tape drives over to my new environment, and ran into a problem with media ID's not being unique. I dont think this is a problem with NB, more of a lack of understanding on my part. If anyone could shed some light on this, I would be forever grateful. (well, maybe not forever. )
Anywho, when I log into my Dell Powervault 132T admin gui, and run library inventory, I see bar codes of this nature :
000029L3
000003L3
000002L3....etc.
After adding my new robot, I try to run inventory, and it shows these:

So if I try to just add these listed above, it tells me the ID's are not unique, and will not proceed. I've looked into the Media ID Generator under advanced options and tried toggling that - (my thinking is what I specify here will re-label / identify these tapes). This didn't work either. Also, in 'advanced robot inventory options', I have 'use barcode rules' checked.
So is there a way to accomplish what I would like to accomplish, without using all new labels? Is there a generic way to label these during an inventory to make them unique? This forum has been of great value so far, and I appreciate any assistance that can be provided.

Hello. Trying to add a new robot through the 'configure storage devices' wizard.
Master - windows server 2008 R2 enterprise
media server - same OS as above
firewalls both turned off, UAC turned off.
Can ping back and forth, have had no issues with backups so far, but I get an error when trying to scan the host for attached devices (does not matter what host I specify, always get this error).
Get a pop up that states "Could not scan host list: Server Connection failed. Verify services or daemons are up and running (195)."
Currently have an active back up ongoing, but not on this media server. Worked with Symantec earlier regarding status 84 error on seperate media server. Any help?

SAN client configuration in netbackup 7.0

Dear All ,
We have symantec netbackup 7.0 with 2 tier architecture ( Master server & media server on one server & Enterprise client license ). Now we are going to configue SAN backup for SAN client.
I did following configuration
1) made one SAN backup zone on SAN switch & put all SAN client & Master server with media server in that zone.
2) install backup client on client server.
3) run command on client server Install_path\NetBackup\bin\bpclntcmd.exe -sanclient 1 & reboot the client.
4) After that I run device configuration wizzard & got SAN client discovered there & I got my client in SAN client tab.
Now I have following querry
1)how to configure the backup for this SAN client over SAN .
2) Where to connect the tape drive ( on media server or on SAN client )
3) FT server or FT media server is required or not.

NDMP backups with EMC Celerra DART 6

Hello Everyone,
We recently upgraded from DART 5.x to 6.x on EMC Celerra NS480. All our NDMP backups are failing. Any thoughts on changes in this new DART version that are affecting this? We are running NBU 7.0 with Solaris master server and combination of Windows and Solaris media servers. All NDMP backups fail with error 99. Very little info on NBU side.
I was getting this error on Celerra:

Did notice when netbackup 7.5 perform a full SQL backup on the SQL database , we notice sometime netbackup might hit an error handle used to associate this call with a previous VxBSAInit() call is invalid.and the job will be hang in the system.
If we perform a query on the active session in the database , we notice under command for BACKUP DATABASE the status is always suspended.

Netbackup java console 7.0.1 hung

Hi ,
Could any one please help. I have upgraded master server from 6.5.3 to 7.0 latter to 7.0.1
For administering backup i have installed java console 7.0.1 on one of the window server. But when ever i open java console getting hung cant even close the console.
i have checked setconf int mem and max mem are ok. aut.conf also checked on Master server and have righ permission.
Master server is linux platform and sitting on DMZ,
Note: The other master server in the DMZ is able to administer using the same java console, that too in linux platform
Could any one find a solution for this?

Archiving a catalog
I need a solution
Hi Folks..
There is space issue on my Catalog.
For some months, we are bound to take all backups with infinite retention.
Thus, we decided to archive the catalog. Now when i archive the catalog, the archival is successull.
When i check it through bpcatlist -online -before-days <> command, after my archival process, i dont see any information in the output. Thus i consider whatever i am archiving is proper. Even no error are seen in activity monitor or in putty session from where i fored the ./bpcatlist command.
But unfortunately i don't see any reduction in my catalog size. Kindly help me identify the issue.
