I need a solution

Hi,

Netbackup master servers :-Linux 7.1.0.4

media server linux NBU 7.1.0.4

client Window 2008 NBU 7.1

i am trying to take a backup of specific file wich of size 610 KB,i am getting the failurs with EC 90.

actaully when i try to take the backup with All local drives, this few files are not getting backup, so though they may be filtered by VSS list , so did verifed with the help of below T/N, but few files are not listed there and still not gettin backup..

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH76997

so did created test policy and added only the file , and trying to take the backup, and got the error EC 90,below is the detail status of the failed job...

i though that the Data buffer size is causing the job failurs... so keep the SIZE_DATA_BUFFERS as 32 but that is not reflecting on the backup job

i am not sure why its not taking those files.. i many servers with the same issue.. and most of them are Virtual server getting backup as Netbackup standard client..

Oracle RMAN backup failures status 50

I need a solution

Environment: I've got a dedicated RHEL 5 linux master, with a RHEL 5 media server both running 7.1.0.4 support about 20 large oracle RAC servers (mix of prod and dev). Clients are running 6.5.6.

Problem: Archive log and block level backup jobs fail intermittently with status 50. These can happen between 4-16 times a day, without much apparent regard for client or time of day.

I've been looking into this for several days, and read some similar posts but nothing that really hits exactly what's happening for me. I've tried checking logs in various place and following the bread crumbs without success. It appears that at this moment the best I can do is from a dbclient log

04:06:30.936 [4082] <2> int_StartJob: INF - copyID: 1 - 1351238758
04:06:30.957 [4082] <2> int_WriteData: INF - writing buffer # 1 of size 262144

04:06:30.957 [4082] <16> dbc_put: ERR - failed sending data to server

Thing is, my bphdb is empty even though it was created before last night's failures.

The job details themselves (picking 1 job out of 4 from last night):

Hi,
When I run the bmrsrtadm script on the master server it is referencing the incorrect server. When I run the script I am getting the below error where it is using the host name and IP address of one of the hosts that I am backing up as the boot server.

masterserver# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin]$ ./bmrsrtadm

[Error] V-125-103 Cannot retrieve boot server information for this host.

Any ideas why it might be doing this. This host is not even registered as a boot server.

I need a solution

HI guys

i got a new project opened in which we have to configure huge number of SQL policies on NBU master server. 90% servers have multiple instances on each win 2008 servers.

as of now what I do is i create 2 policies 1 full , 1 incremental for each SQL instance on a server. now i hav got servers in my environment which hav 8 SQL instances on a single server. i ended up creating 16 different policies for a single server.

Is there a way or method to backup diffferent\multiple SQL instances of a server in a single netbackup policy ??

Hi ALL Mates,

I have below doubts regarding NBU

  • Media which is drive 1 will always go back to the same slot from which it came after backup?
  • If media is in drive 1 and it came from slot 2.And i ran inventory, will my new media will go to that slot 2?
  • Can i manually move media from drive to a different slot from which it came?
  • will my drive be down in case 2?
  • can media be moved to different slots from where it first came into drive?

How to check SYbase is up or not?

NetBackup 7.5 - How to identify Recurring Appointments for a Exchange GRT Restore

I need a solution

Hello,

I had a request to just restore from a user's Calendar "recurring items" because if I restore everything, it would send out old appointments to meetings that happen in the past -- basically confusing other people.

We run Exchange GRT every day, but I cannot identify any "recurring calendar items"; is there a way?

Thank you,

VMware backup speeds SAN

I need a solution

Hi All,

I've added a large VM estate to my backup enviornment. I am on NetBackup 7.1.0.4 and backing up my VM's across the SAN. I am backing up 5 at a time at the moment, and using a query based client selection. I backing up 1 ESXi host at a time, but for the active jobs i am seeing around 12mb/s each, totalling a max of 60mb/s for 5 combined jobs.

I've seen this tech note however i dont think this is the case as my SAN backups are not that slow, however across the Network they are just as fast.

 http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH193788&profileURL=https%3A%2F%2Fsymaccount-profile.symantec.com%2FSSO%2Findex.jsp%3FssoID%3D13515194771172Oqa9e8xTtZBq8xW5Y3sFMe8l37v53kgjtG3u

My policy is set to SAN, yet the job detailed status is showing the transfer type as black, yet when the job is finished it shows LAN. But whilst the backup job is running the NIC on the VM backup host are not utilisted.

Anyone have any performance improvement idea's for VM's?

Thanks,

Jay

I need a solution

Hi,

I am planning for taking backups through MSDP. But need your inputs on below points before finalizing,

1) How to Share MSDP storage server? Ex: If i take backup through Media Server (M1) and then it crashes, is there any way to restore it without making M1 server up and running.  As in tape there was an option to change to restore after bpmedia -movedb.

2) In our setup there are many Media Servers. Do i need to assign individual storages to each and every Media Servers?

DR scenario will recover most everything, but not *db

I need a solution

HI Folks

Im thinking this is a NB bug but anyway theres a lot of folks in the forum with experience that may be able to shed some light.

Scenario: Sol10 Sparc master, NB7504.

Some other media servers, including a Windows box in the DR site.

Also at DR site: Sol10 x86 DR master server, shut down most of the time.

Previously tested: catalog written by Sol10 sparc master recovered onto Sol10 x86 master in DR. No problems.

Both masters have the same name.

However as above I've got a media server (the Windows box) at my DR site and I've configged a policy to write the catalog to that. And now I'm testing it.

I've got my override to tell it that it needs to not use the original media server: FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER = <originalwindowsmediaserver> Solx86master

And the restore runs almost the whole way through...I get my catalog...clean as a whistle.

But right at the end I have issues:

It wont restore anything from /usr/openv/db/staging eg BMRDB, BMRDATA , (the kind of stuff you need at DR!) , theres maybe 20 files it refuses to deal with.

Then it gives error 2850  and thence

Failed to recover NBDB on <server> (5)

Thence unable to freeze media 000039 server name not found in Netbackup config (254)

If I repeat the exercise the result is slightly different:

Immediately the DR recovery tells me some utterly confusing message about 'these files will not be restored because they are not present when the backup- was done" (which is incorrect) then again it lists the contents of .../db/staging as it did the first attempt saying

.../staging/BMRDB.db is not in the true image list.Skipping.

etc

It then recovers the catalog and then repeats the  business of everything in .../db/staging were not restored.

My feeling is that whilst it  does the restore, it restores bp.conf, and when it has done that, it no longer has  the FORCE_RESTORE_MEDIA_SERVER entry for the media servers I no longer have..so that act of the restore causes the restore of the staging data to fail.

bp.conf has changed, it is the one from the master, timestamp 15:25 and the error occurs at...you guessed it:15:25:43

So I need FORCE_  etc in the original bp.conf on the backup, BUT I dont want to do that when restoring, only in DR.I want to restore using the server that did the backup for speed.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,Jim
