Moving data from one opscenter to a new one

I need a solution

Hello all,

I have an old opscenter (7.1.0.4) with 2 master servers configured in it.

I have a new opscenter (7.5) with 10 master servers configured on it.

I need to move the historical data from one of the servers in old opscenter to the new opscenter.

I've read that you can move the database from one opscenter to another copying the data under /db/data, but i don't want to replace the info in the new opscenter, I would like just to add the info of the corresponding server, or merge both databases.

Can this be done? Does anyone have any idea about how to do this?

Kind regards,

Juan

What is with this error and why is it so common when patching from 7.1 to 7.1.0.4?  I see it often and sometimes the cause is an extra msiexec process running but even without that I still see it.

Anything else I can look for?  This happens a lot on Windows 2003 servers.

Netbackup 7.5 Media Server Cluster in an AIX HACMP environment

I need a solution

Hello all,

I have a few questions about a medi server cluster we configured recently.

When we move the apllication (DB2/SAP in HACMP cluster) from one node to the other node, it takes NetBackup up to 40 minutes to register that the application moved and to update the media server.

I can see that in /usr/openv/volmgr/debug/daemon

application switch was at 15:05

node1, now inactive noticed the switch at 15:18

So it took NetBackup 40 minutes to recognise the switch. That seems a little bit to long?
Or is that normal behavior? What criteria does netbackup use to determine if the cluster is active on one node?

In addition to that I get a error message in this logs right after the switch:

<8> file_to_cache_item: [vnet_addrinfo.c:6555] fopen() failed ERRNO=112 FILE=/usr/openv/var/host_cache/073/73053c73+0,1,41,0,1,0+10.1.30.190.txt

Is this something to worrry about? The IP adress 10.1.30.190 is the cluster IP, that switched with the cluster app.

Maybe there is a way to include the NetBackup UpdateClusterActiveNode Commands into the scripts that run during the switch, to speed up things?

Thanks in advance

Volker

I need a solution

Hi everyone,

I have an NetBackup 7.5 and trying to upgrade to 7.5.0.4 (HPUX ia64). During the installation it says me I have about 1.2 GB of free space in /tmp and NetBackup needs about 2.4 GB in /tmp.

The problem is, my /tmp is a fixed size, about 1.4GB in total. Can I redirect where NetBackup can extract the files to another directory with more disk space?

I need a solution

Is there *any* way to use these together.  Here is my scenario:

I need to use SLPs to replicate MSDP data from our primary DC to an offsite DC.  That is working well.  However, I want to batch up writing older MSDP images from disk to tape.  Vault has always worked for this functionality *very* nicely.

So I configured a vault to start rolling images off the MSDP to tape - only to receive the "images failed: Already duplicated" message.

Is there any way to use vault in this manner?

Thanks,

Hi

We have NDMP backups configured for both emc celerra and sun 7410. Some of the shares in sun filer seems to be working fine but some are starting well and then fails with media write errors. The celerra backups are not working at all.

Netbackup version -7.5.0.3

OS version - Redhat 6.2

Any help would be appreciated. I have opened case with symantec and did not find any solution yet.

I can connect to both the filers from nbu servers.

Netbackup Catalog Backup Failure After Upgrade to 7.5.0.4

I need a solution

Having just upgraded my Master Server and 3 Media Servers from 7.0.1. to 7.5.0.4 all regular backups and general system operation appears to be running OK.  However - I have just attempted a Catalog Backup and it is failing.

The parent job starts and spawns two more jobs as per usual.  The first job stages the NBAZDB and NBDB to disk, and the second one writes the DARS_DATA.db to tape.  Both of these jobs work OK.  Then just as I expect to see the last job be spawned to copy the main catalog files to tape (290GB) the parent job fails with the following:

System Call Failed(11)

The final copy job never starts.

I did have NBAC configured prior to the upgrade, but this is now set to PROHIBITED as it was causing the upgrade to fail.  I am investigating this as a seperate issue.

Any pointers ?

NetBackup 7.5 Vault

I need a solution

Hello

Im thinking we have a pretty basic Netbackup setup and Im thinking that the vault option that we just got should be somewhat simple in terms of vaulting and ejecting the tapes out so we can send offsite...  For our backups we are backing up solaris/unix servers, solaris NAS, and windows servers(including SQL & exchange)..  I guess my question is whats is the best approach in terms of setting up the vault in terms of how frequent I should vault/duplicate the backups and should I have more than one vault profile..   We run FULL level backups every week with retention for 6 months.  We run differential-Inc everyday with a retention of 1 month. Also run Catalog Bkups everyday(differential) with retention of 2 weeks.  Then a full catalog once a week with 2 week retrntion. Should I create a separate profile to vault the Full level backups and then a vault profile to vault the Differential backups?  I have posted on here before and I still consider myself a novice with Symantec products..  Im just looking for some feedback from some people that have used the vault and can maybe give me some examples/ideas on a typical vault setup in terms of vault profiles etc...  I appreciate it...  Im still studying the NBU Vault Administrators guid 7.5...

I need a solution

Hi everyone, my first post here, i will try to give the best info i can.

i have a error message, trying to execute a command, from windows powershell on my computer, to a remote netbackup master server (on windows server). i tried many different options from the command line, still the same results.

i am trying to create, with nbstl.exe, like 20 or more lifecycle policies. here is my last version of that command. i will make operand to new line, for more readability

nbstl haw1_slp_monthly

-add -uf 0,1,1
-source 0,1,1
-residence haw1bkma01b_haw1bkdd01,haw1_to_ftm1,ftm1bkma03b-hcart-robot-tld-19
-pool __NA__,__NA__,hawesville
-managed 0,0,0
-rl 10,10,11
-as __NA__,__NA__,ftm1bkma03b.homelinux.dnet
-mpx __NA__,__NA__,T

the output i'm getting is:

nbstl.exe : nbstl: unrecognized option 1
+ CategoryInfo          : NotSpecified: (nbstl: unrecognized option 1:String) [], RemoteException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : NativeCommandError

Exit error: invalid command parameter
EXIT status = 20

what options i am doing wrong !? any help would be appreciated!

Rman Backups failed with error code 42 and 6.

I need a solution

Netbackup 7.1

Rman backups used to run fine.  After we migrated our server from Sunfire 6800/6900 to T4-4 (P2V) and upgraded NICs from 1Gb to 10Gb for backups.  Rman backups started to failed with error code 42 and 6.  It is intermittent though.  Some backups are worse than the others.

We implemented a workaround suggested by symantec about using account other than SYS, but it didnt help.

Does anyone have similar issue?  If so, what's your solution?

Thanks

media server is down for some patching

I need a solution

Hi ALL.

One of my media server is down for patching.

I need to make this offline.

I came for below conclusion:

Deactivate the media server on the Master server by running

vmoprcmd -deactive_host -h <media_servername>

nbemmcmd -updatehost -machinename <media_servername> -machinestateop set_admin_pause -machinetype media -masterserver <master_server>

But i just wanna know what all both command will do?

Is command 1 enough for making media server offline?

Why command 2?

VMware Backup Failure with NetBackup 7.5, Transport Mode Error 23, Status 6

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

I thought I would post a solution here to a Status 23 error from bpbrm which results in a Status 6 on the parent VMware backup job (child job never spawns).

The particulars:

NBU version: 7.5.0.1 / 7.5.0.4
Master Server: Solaris 10 (SPARC)
Media / Backup Host: Windows 2008 R2

ESXi 4.1.0 / vCenter 4.1.0
Storage: NetApp 3240

Policy Type: VMware
Storage Policy: Local DSSU
BLIB: Yes
Transport mode: NBD/NBDSSL (this issue can also apply to SAN)

If you're like me, you've already looked into the possible solutions below...

Ensure hostname resolution works for all ESXi hosts / vCenter to/from the Master Server
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/error-opening-snapshot-disks-using-given-transport-mode-status-23-backup-failed-back-requeste
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/netbackup-vmware-error-opening-snapshot-disks-using-given-transport-mode-status-23

Are the datastores presented/accessible to the VMware Backup Host? (not applicable for NBD)
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/status-code-6-and-23-vstorage-api
https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/error-opening-snapshot-disks-using-given-transport-mode-status-23

...but to no avail. Engaged tech support, turn VxMS logging on etc.

Logs produced look similar to this:

This error will repeat for all available transport modes.

Steps we tried that did not work:

  • Removed and re-added client to policy
  • Upgraded from 7.5.0.1 to 7.5.0.4 (a suggestion from Symantec)
  • vMotion VM to another ESXi host
  • Storage vMotion VM to another datastore

Solution:

We cloned the VM and the clone successfully backed up. Which led us to wonder if it was a config issue on the VMware side (VMX file?).

After taking an outage for the client we did the following:

  1. Remove the offending VM from vCenter inventory.
  2. Rename the VM folder using the datastore browser. (This step is to avoid the same name folder that will be created in step 3)
  3. Create a new VM with the same name and specs. But no disks attached.
  4. Move the vmdk files from the old file folder to new folder.
  5. "Edit settings" on the newly created VM and attach "existing disk" by locating the VMDK files.
  6. Power on the new VM.
  7. Remove the old (renamed) file folder which should contain only the vmx, nvram and log files [house cleaning]

The client was then able to backup successfully.

I need a solution

Hello,

We are trying again to get our Linux server NBU Client installed. We have not had any luck installing NBU since 6.5.4

I am running 7.5.0.3 and downloaded the 7.5 Client installs. The Unix Admin has tried loading them and he reports it is syaing - incompatable. We are using RedHat 2.6.09

We are going to be doing an upgrade on the software on the Linux box and would like to have a backup before this happens...

Thanks.
