VMWare resource limit clarification

I need a solution

Hello all, I am currently looking deeper into the VM resource limit settings on NBU 7.5 and have a question on the following resource limit:

DataStoreType.  The documentation states that the value is "The maximum number of simultaneous backups per datastore type".

It looks like you can only put a number into the value field.

Question is, how can you differentiate between the datastore types ?  Because the way it looks now, since you can only set one number, then the setting applies to all datastore types.  And if that is the case, why wouldn't one just use the "Datastore" resource limit.

Thanks.

I need a solution

Hi,

Does anyone know what Symantec or Quantum or Sony recommends for the "maximum mounts" setting in the media properties? We are running out of tapes quickly as many are hitting the current 500 max mounts as setup by a previous admin. We are not sure this is correct and are wondering if we are retiring tapes too earfly that could be used again after rewturning from 1 month offsite storage. Hardware info mis below.

NBU version 6.5.4  <----Ya, I know it's EOL

I need a solution

The backup job failed at 95% and therefore the files are not showing on the catalog. I know there are a lot of files and I nned to view and restore some of those files from the tape.

How do I view/list files saved onto specific tape backed up from server A?

If files are on that tape, how do I restore those files back to server A or any other?

Thanks for the help,

I need a solution

We are running a NBU 7.5.0.6 on a windows 2008 R2 as master server.

Had a huge backup failures with 96, and we found that there we no media in volume pool or in the scratch pool.

I would need a script that send me an e-mail every 24 hours about the available media in all the volume pools and scratch pool.

Do any of you have one? Will Available_Media.cmd under goodies can help me?

The whole idea is to proactively monitor that all volume/scratch pools have "AVAILABLE" media to use to run the backup.

Any reporting OPS center?

Restoring Individual Mailboxes using Exchange 2010 GRT - Socket read Failed (23)

I need a solution

Hi

Any help/advice on this issue would be appreciated.

I have managed to successfully back up an Exchange 2010 using GRT however when attempting to restore individual mailboxes or subfolders my restore fails with the error 23 Socket Read failed.

Although I  am selecting the DAG within BAR, when the restore initiates a new stream in activity Monitor  appears (in addition to the main DAG stream), named EMAILACCESS.[XXX].[XXX]. I suspect the issue is arising from here, possibly to do with the FQDN stored in the Host file, but even though i have tried including the short Domain Name as well as the FQDN I cannot get any further without it failing.

NFS has been configured as has the correct login accounts required for Exchange.

I need a solution

Hello all,

One of my customers is going to start using Vault to duplicate images, and they’d like to know if there is a way to generate the pick list for tapes to eject, but not have Vault eject the tapes.

Their library is not large, and right now their process is to open the library, remove all the tapes at once, and then inventory the library.  They’d like to have Vault email out a list of media so they can double check what they’ve removed…

The eject step in a profile will generate this report, but will also move tapes to the MAP, which they do not want (they’d have to remove tapes from the MAP ~4 times or so to complete the eject…

is this possible?

I found in the help files that disabling the eject function may cause the report to fail, so I am not sure if disabling eject is the right way to go.

Thanks for your help in advanced.

Migrating existing bu job definitions from old to new NBU 7.5 master server

I need a solution
Short Description;
The situation is we have recently built a new NetBackup 7.5 master server, and now we want to export the NBU backup job definitions from the old NetBackup 7.0x master server and import them into the new NBU 7.5 master server.
I have followed the general outline given in this forum article:

After copying the class bu job defs from old NBU 7.0 master server to new NBU 7.5 master server, adding/selecting the new NBU 7.5 master server on the client server, recycling NBU services on new NBU 7.5 master server, I can't connect from the new NBU 7.5 master server to the client server and backup up the server; the error msg is: bpcd on <clientServer1> exited with status 59: access to the client was not allowed

Is there something I am missing? I am able to ping and resolve the client servers from the new NetBackup 7.5 master server and vice versa.
Thanks for any good explanations.

Verbose Explanation:
The situation is we have recently built a new NetBackup 7.5 master server, and now we want to export the NBU backup job definitions from the old NetBackup 7.0x master server and import them into the new NBU 7.5 master server.
I have followed the general outline given in this forum article:

Basically what I have done is to zip up the current bu job defs from the original NBU 7.0 master server (from here:%installPath%\VERITAS\NetBackup\db\class\*)
and copy this zip file to the destination new NetBackup 7.5 master server, and unzip the class.zip into the new server's bu job defs class folder here: (%installDrive%\Program Files\Veritas\NetBackup\db\class)

After closing the NBU admin console on new master server and recycling NBU services, I can see the imported bu job policies;

In left hand pane, select one of the policies (in this example, dbServers), then in the right-pane, under the dbServers: 22 Clients section, see the list of servers defined for this bu definition; select the server (clientServer1) and RDP into this server and change/add the master server;
(start/symantec netbackup/"backup, archive, and restore" utility; from the file menu, "Specify NetBackup Machines and Policy Type..."; edit server list, and add the new master server; then select the new master server and click ok)

exit/logoff server; then back on the new master server, recycle the nbu client service again;

right-click policy to edit; select change; goto backup selections tab;

I need a solution

Hello, I had a problem W/ a Server that I just wanna use it for a POC (prof of concept)

the awkward thing is that my lics has gone but I can't put UP any deamon, even the

Help --> Licence Keys   give me a socket error.

I have asked Symantec fot another demo lic, but I'm little bit worried about the environment at all

is that normal NBU 7.5 w/ no lics get this crazy, no deamon are started?

I have absolutly no access to NBU, even the Activity Monitor,

Best Regards

I need a solution

Hi there,

There was a business requirement to have more than 1 backup to of critical server  number of times througout the day. Apart from tape backup. I have configured disk based backup as 1 weekly full and 4 differential backups every day all throughout the week. I was just wondering if this is right approach.

To be precise....

in my case I have 2 full backups...one on tape and one on disk STU

Similarly i have 1 diff backup on tape and numerous diff backup directed to used disk STU.

Will the restore work properly if i have  restore from either of differential backups.

Would anybody know about it. Please let me know...Many thanks !

I need a solution

Hi Experts,

It is configured to take backup one mailbox DB on passive copy of one of the passive DAG node.  (without GRT, normal exchange backup)

I have triggered a full backup and the snaphost has completed but i dont see any byte movement in backup job.

I dont see any errors in detailed status of both parent and child streams. Nothing is showing under kilobytes in activity monitor and the time elapsed for this job is morethan a 30 mniutes.

Please let me know what should be reason ???????
